Alden Richards soaps up for Global Handwashing Day

Pambansang Bae Alden Richards headed to Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila on Thursday for a very important mission: to stress how important it is to wash your hands properly.

The event commemorates Global Handwashing Day, which is celebrated on October 15 with the aim to increase "awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives," according to the World Health Organization.

At the event organized by local soap brand Safeguard, Alden met many of his young fans and led them in the proper way of washing your hands. According to the Global Handwashing Partnership, this is how to do it:

• Wet hands
• Cover wet hands with soap
• Scrub all surfaces, including palms, back of the hands, between the fingers, and under the fingernails for about 20 seconds
• Rinse well with running water
• Dry on a clean cloth or by waving in the air
