Yardstick Coffee, 3 other PH cafes named among World's 100 Best Coffee Shops

Four cafes in the Philippines were named among the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops list this 2025, which was announced during the Coffee Fest in Madrid, Spain on February 17.

Yardstick Coffee, which has multiple branches in Metro Manila, took the 18th spot.

This was followed by El Union Coffee in La Union at 61st, which is also the lone cafe outside of Metro Manila.

Single Origin, which also has branches around Metro Manila, clinched the 83rd spot, while Crema & Cream Coffee Roasters in Quezon City ranked 86th.

Meanwhile, the Top 5 best coffee shops in the world are Toby's Estate Coffee Roasters in Australia, Onyx Coffee LAB in the United States, Gota Coffee Experts in Austria, Proud Mary Coffee in Australia, and Tim Wendelboe in Norway.

A "comprehensive set of criteria" is used to evaluate the coffee shops and includes quality of coffee, barista expertise, customer service, innovation, ambience and atmosphere, sustainability practices, food and pastry quality, and consistency.

According to organizers, the voting system for the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops list includes public voting by coffee enthusiasts from around the world, as well as a panel of specialty coffee experts and industry professionals to assess the cafes. Public votes make up 30% of the final score, while the evaluations of the expert panel comprise the remaining 70%.

During the nomination process, both the public and expert panel can nominate coffee shops. A shortlist is created after the nomination period, and coffee shops with the highest total scores are included on the final ranked list.
