Angeles City in Pampanga is a World Culinary Awards 2024 nominee!

At the M.I.C.E. 2024 press conference by the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Thursday, DOT Secretary Christina Frasco announced the Sisig Capital of the Philippines is among the nominees for the title of Asia’s Best Emerging Culinary City Destination 2024 by the World Culinary Awards.

As seen in the World Culinary Awards website, Angeles City will be competing against four Asian cities: Hanoi in Vietnam, Kyoto in Japan, Taipei in Taiwan, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. 

In a social media post, DOT asked the public to show some support for Angeles by voting for it on the World Culinary Awards website. Public voting is open until August 30. 

To vote, you need to sign up and create an account. Verify your email address by following the instructions sent to your email. Upon verification, return to the voting page and click VOTE NOW for Angeles City, Pampanga (Philippines) to cast your vote.

Angeles City, known as the "culinary capital" of the Philippines, is at the urban core of Metro Clark alongside Mabalacat and San Fernando City. It is promoted as a gastronomy tourist destination. 

The city is known for its famous Pork Sisig, earning the moniker “Sisig Capital of the Philippines” with a Sisig Festival locally known as the Sadsaran Qng Angeles celebrated every December. 

The World Culinary Awards is the sister event of the World Travel Awards which was established in 1994. The award aims to celebrate and reward excellence in the culinary industry. 

Previously, Frasco announced that the Philippines will be hosting the World Travel Awards 2024 on September 3, with the country bagging seven nominations for this year’s edition.
