Filipinos in South Korea share must-try food in Myeongdong district

Aside from its Korean stars and remarkable scenery, which we will see in Barbie Forteza and David Licauco’s “That Kind of Love,” South Korea is also known for its street food.

Here are some recommended street food items from our kababayans who Sandra Aguinaldo met in Myeongdong in Seoul, as seen in her report on “24 Oras,” Thursday.

The Kapuso journalist first tried tanghulu, or fruit candy, which came with grapes, strawberries, and oranges covered in caramelized sugar.

“Nakikita na rin dati sa K-drama tapos parang naku-curious kami kasi ang ganda naman na ma-feel din namin ‘yung nakikita namin sa TV,” Sheena Yosores, a tourist, said.

Another Filipino tourist recommended fish cake and chicken skewers.

The reporter also got to try burning beef steak, which is prepared by the vendor in an entertaining way.

“Level up nang konti. At the same time, ‘yung food niya, hindi nalalayo sa restaurants in the Philippines na medyo may kamahalan nang kaunti pero pasok naman sa budget,” one Jess Villegas said.

A young boy named Ken Aries Bolos recommended the hweori gamja, or tornado potato, he bought.

And finally, another popular Korean dish available in Myeongdong district is the tteokbokki, which the vendor said is “best friends” with the fish cake.
