R'Bonney Gabriel hilariously asks neighbor for rice after cooking sinigang

R’Bonney Gabriel just wanted to cook sinigang, but she was in for a fun and very Filipino adventure!

In an Instagram Reel, Miss Universe 2022 said sinigang is her favorite Filipino meal and that her friend Carla would be helping her cook.

“Magluluto ako ng sinigang na salmon,” R’Bonney said, and then named all of the ingredients in Tagalog.

R’Bonney learned how to “mekus mekus” or mix the ingredients as well as how to properly chop them for the dish.

She also got in trouble with Carla for breaking up the salmon. “I’m still gonna eat it though,” she said.

After cooking the dish, they realized they didn’t have the essential Filipino dish: rice.

Because of this, R’Bonney and Carla went to their next door neighbor and asked for some. “We secured the kanin,” R’Bonney said.

When they were finally eating, R’Bonney and her mom Dana said the sinigang was “masarap,” with her mother rating it a 9.5 out of 10.

R'Bonney, the first Filipino-American Miss Universe, has been exploring her heritage in the Philippines, from eating Pinoy street food, practicing her "tawad" game in Divisoria, riding a jeepney, and visiting her dad Remigio’s childhood home in Malate, Manila.

R’Bonney and her parents were recently in Boracay, where they had some fun beach time and enjoyed a boodle fight.

The beauty queen was among the hosts of the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 coronation night, where Bulacan’s Chelsea Manalo reigned victorious.
