What's the secret behind the Korean fried chicken we're always seeing in K-dramas?

If you like watching K-dramas, you've probably seen the lead characters eating a delectable plate of fried chicken.

The dish has become popular among international fans, including Filipinos, something that didn't escape the notice of restaurant owners in Seoul, South Korea.

In his report on "Unang Balita," GMA Integrated News' JP Soriano visited a shop that specializes in K-fried chicken.

"We believe the chicken became more appealing to the public because it is together with the stories of the contents that people are watching," they said.

They also showed JP how they cook the chicken — apparently, they mix a special flour in cold water to achieve the crispiness!

"So dito pala sa South Korea, kaya napakasarap nung kanilang Korean fried chicken, meron palang proseso kung paano nila nilalagyan ng timpla," JP said.

"Pati 'yung paghawak ng brush meron palang tama, parang lapis daw," he added. "Tapos tatlong beses lalagyan."

JP was able to try cooking the chicken, and later was able to enjoy a dish of his own.

"Dito sa Korea, ang pagluluto ng manok hindi lang simpleng pagluto kundi isang art form," he said.

According to the report, the Korean fried chicken is best paired with beer.

There are also a wide range of sweets to choose from for dessert — for traditional Korean sweets, check out the Korean Food Cultural Space in Seoul. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
