This favorite BGC cafe will start offering cocktails and bar bites this month

Caravan Black BGC

Thanks to good coffee, delicious all-day breakfast, and the occasional drink, Caravan Black has become a favorite among office workers, corporate execs, BGC moms, and students alike since it opened its doors in 2016.

Subtle changes in the menu would keep the Caravan Black experience interesting, as old favorites like the chori burger and the orange coffee soda kept them reliable and familiar.

These favorites won't go anywhere when Caravan Black introduces a new menu of bar bites and a cocktails list on November 8.

The cafe worked with popular Chef Him Uy de Baron for a slew of bar bites that is decidedly Asian. “We are a local company, in the Philippines so starting with an Asian theme was a no-braining for us,” co-owner Miguel Rodriguez tells GMA News Online.

Besides, Caravan Black’s current menu already has a strong Asian flavor so it was all but natural for its new bar bites menu to have strong Asian influences, too.

There is the Salmon Skewers, an order of which comes in 3 sticks of gorgeous salmon topped with mango salsa.

The orange chicken buns come highly recommended by Miguel, for good measure. The tasty orange chicken with coleslaw and herbs are hugged together by warm buns for a merienda that’s just the right kind of hefty and filling.

It is one of three buns in the new menu, which also includes Bo Ssam (pork shoulders) and Tofu Mushroom.

For its new drinks list, Caravan Black knew they wanted low ABV drinks “because we didn’t want anyone to get buzzed out here.”

Mindful of their clientele — and their identity as a coffee shop — Rodriguez said “It’s still a cafe. You could be having your cocktails and someone beside you is studying or working.”

They worked with “and really trusted” mixologist Clayton Paul for a drinks list that’s “nothing too wild, with just a nice buzz” that Rodriguez says would make for a nice pre-game session.

Caravan Black has a number of refreshing cocktails that “would speak to a lot of people” like the Strawberry Spritz (strawberry infused aperol, manilla, various gin, and soda water), the Caravan Sour (Jim Beam bourbon, lemon, kimchi, egg white, and angostura bitters), and a couple of sangrias, Garden (Tannery seville, Cointreau, organ, tangerine syrup, procesecco) and Purple (Bacardi white rum, sweet potato syrup, lemon, pineapple, red wine).

It also has a couple of mocktails options for those days when you want that vibe but not the kick of alcohol.

Customers can order the cocktails any time of day, but the bar bites will be available late in the afternoon. — LA, GMA Integrated News
