Banana tree in Quezon attracts attention online after bearing thousands of fruit
A banana tree in Mauban, Quezon has attracted attention online after bearing thousands of fruit.
According to Kuya Kim on "24 Oras," Friday, the tree was planted by Edgardo Borromeo 10 years ago.
Eventually, he noticed that the plant kept bearing more and more fruit in longer clusters.
"Punong-puno ng bunga, siksik, hindi lang siguro dalawang libo ang laman niyan. Mahirap kuhain ang bunga, dikit-dikit," he said.
("It's full of fruit, probably more than 2,000 pieces. They're hard to harvest, as they're stuck together so much.")
What kind of banana is it? Kohlin Lallabban, an agricultural biotechnologist, said it is a variety called banana thousand fingers. It's a normal variety that bears from 100 up to 1,000 pieces of banana.
The banana in Mauban tree has become popular thanks to Victor Cruz, who uploaded a video of it after getting amazed by its fruit.
Edgardo, meanwhile, plans to give away the fruits to his neighbors when they ripen.
"Ang daming natutuwa dito, mga bata tuwang-tuwa. 'Kumuha na lang kayo diyan, pitas na lang kayo,'" he said.
("Many have been delighted, the children are so happy. 'Just get some, pick them yourself.'")
