This 'samgyupsal in a jar' offers unique twist to your Korean barbecue experience


Aside from K-Drama and K-Pop, Filipinos are also into Korean food, especially samgyupsal or Korean barbecue.

Filipinos' love for K-food is evident with all the Korean restaurants and groceries popping up one after another, as well as the long queues in Korean barbecue places.

But if you're tired of the typical samgyup experience where you grill all the meat at the comfort of your table while munching on some banchan on the side, then you should give this "samgyup in a jar" restaurant a try in Amadeo, Cavite.

In an episode of "Dapat Alam Mo!," Maricar Kim, owner of "Unlimited Lechon with Samgyupsal Jar by Chonghonim Food House," shared what sets them apart from other Korean barbecue houses.

According to Maricar, her Korean husband is fond of watching Korean vlogs where they saw a potential in offering samgyupsal by using a traditional method of cooking the meat using a jar.

"Nag-try kami na magluto [ng samgyupsal] sa jar. Bukod sa nawawala na 'yung foul odor o 'yung smell ng baboy kahit gaano pa siya ka-fresh, nagiging soft and tasty din 'yung meat," the restaurant owner said.

("We tried cooking in a jar. Aside from that fact that it gets rid of the foul odor or the porky smell, the meat becomes soft and tasty.")

After a few trial and error, Maricar and her kitchen staff finally got the perfect recipe and method of cooking the meat using a jar.

"'Yung meat naming puwede naming iluto around 80% doon sa jar, paglagay namin sa table, you can grill na," she said.

("Our meat can be cooked around 80% in the jar, then you can grill it when it is served on your table.")

Maricar also said that they offer 100% cooked meat, so when it arrives on the customer's table, they can already start eating.

"Pagdating sa table mo icu-cut mo na lang siya. Ang magiging lasa niya is parang cooked ham na siya," she said.

("When it arrives on the table, you just need to cut it. The taste is like cooked ham.")
