How long does it take to make this giant chicharon?
"Unang Hirit" on Friday walked its viewers through the entire process of making the super popular giant chicharon of R.L. Foods.
Apparently, one piece of the life-sized pork treat takes no less than 4 hours to make.
The process starts with chopping the pork and then blanching it for about six minutes to pelletise the pork, or to make it super fine.
After blanching, comes the cooking, the longest step in the process. According to Ryan Lapid, VP of R.L. Foods, the pork is cooked for about 3-4 hours.
From cooking, they tenderise the pork, after which it undergoes popping, or the stage where the pork crackles as it grows in size.
After popping, they let the large piece of chicharon rest to ensure that famous chicharon crackle is retained. It is also here that they season it for that familiar good taste.
We know. We're craving a piece for ourselves too! — LA, GMA News
