Why do people believe that eating noodles will lead to long life? Kuya Kim explains
It has long been a belief that eating noodles on one's birthday will lead to a longer life, but when exactly did this start?
According to Kuya Kim on Monday's "24 Oras," it began with Emperor Wu from the Han Dynasty in China. He believed that those with long faces have long lives.
The Chinese then associated the belief with noodles instead.
Though noodles is now a popular dish worldwide, its origins is still being debated. It was first mentioned in the third century AD when its strands were just short. They were called Mian Pian.
Nevertheless, the popularity of noodles is unmatched. In fact, several versions have been made by Filipinos since it was introduced to the Philippines.
Among the most popular ones is pancit, which came from the Hokkien word "pian e sit," meaning "food that is easy to cook." Other variations include palabok, pancit luglug, and pancit habhab.
