Pineapples on pizza? This Quezon City diner serves peaches on pizza instead

As the debate on whether pineapples belong on pizza go on, a new contender enters the ring: peaches on pizza.

Hold that frown until you try it, and you can try it at Diner 55, a restaurant in Quezon City offering guests a slice of comfort food from all over the world.

On its menu is the Yo! Fernando pizza, a unique item featuring caramelized onions, marinara, mozzarella, double-smoked ham, and slices of peaches on a bed of pizza, made with focaccia.

“It’s an homage to the classic pizza,” said Chef RJ Ungo during a press conference.

Named after the husband of diner owner Jean Dumago-Descallar, Yo! Fernando boasts of unusual flavor combination that surprisingly work so well together, they give the same familiar comfort pizzas bring.

In a typical Hawaiian pizza, the full sweetness from pineapples cuts through everything. With Yo! Fernando, the tangy yet sweet flavor from peaches and caramelized onions erupts in the mouth and is quickly balanced out by the balsamic vinegar and meat slices.

Paired it with a chewy yet crisp crust, and it’s no wonder this pizza flavor is memorable.

Aside from the unique pizza meal, Diner 55 also offers different cuisines that fuses together flavors from around the world in the hopes of bringing comfort amid the pandemic. There's the Cereal Milk Panna Cotta made up of milk pudding, caramel popcorn and ice cream, and Ooh-Beh! Waffle and Chicken, golden fried chicken served with homemade ube pancakes and salted dulce de leche.

Diner 55 is a “restaurant that will soon serve comfort food — big and tasty hearty meals for a good price," Dumago-Descallar promised.

And in case you were wondering, the 55 on the restaurant name serves a triple purpose. There are the personal reasons of Dumago-Descallar: “I added 55 [to the diner's name] not only because of my age but also because it signifies that it’s the time in my life, that I get to realize my dream of having a restaurant," she shared.

And then there is also what it offers: "55 chosen recipes of comfort food and dishes [from] all over the world," Dumago-Descallar continued.

Finally, 55, says Dumago-Descallar, represents two hands that ready to serve and help!
