Pampanga’s Best founder ‘Apung Lolet’ Hizon dies
Leticia Lolita Olalia Hizon, the founder of Pampanga’s Best — and the inventor of the original tocino — has passed away.
“Apung Lolet’s” death was announced in a statement posted Sunday, October 3 on Facebook.
“As the founder of Pampanga’s Best, the inventor of the original Tocino, and as a philanthropist in her community, her contribution to the Philippine economy is immeasurable,” the family said in the statement.
“Likewise, her influence on Filipino cuisine cannot be overstated,” it added.
According to the family, Apung Lolet is survived by her husband, Angelo Hizon, their 12 children, 61 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren.
“Our loss is heaven’s gain. Although we will miss her terribly, her legacy lives on. Apung Lolet always said that the success of Pampanga’s Best has been because of Divine Providence,” the family said.
“We continue to trust in God’s sovereign plan, and express our utmost gratitude for lending us his amazing gift: Our Apung Lolet,” it said. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
