‘Selena + Chef’ is the show for all you new cooks out there
Have you ever watched a cooking show and thought, "Wait, how did the chef do that? Can I see that again?”
Well, now you can, because Season 1 and 2 of "Selena + Chef" has finally arrived on HBO Go.
The unscripted series follows actress, singer and all-round relatable queen Selena Gomez as she learns how to make something delicious in the kitchen -- which is what many of us have been doing while being stuck at home amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here are just few cool things about the show that you need to know:
1. Just learn with Selena, no skills required.
Finally, a cooking show that gives you time to ask, "am I doing this right?"
Selena admits she's also new to cooking, so she taps some world-famous chefs and her "Quaranteam" family to help her learn the recipes and navigate her way around the kitchen.
Don't get us wrong -- we love binge-watching shows where a five-Michelin-star chef goes "do this," "do that," and presents a mouth-watering dish a few moments later, but sometimes beginners need time to pause, rewind, and take our time to make sure we're using the right tools or ingredients.
2. It's super unscripted.
In "Selena + Chef," Selena tries her best to nail a recipe the first time.
She gets some top-notch pointers from an all-star chef in every episode, but there are just some moments when she gets into some silly (but super relatable) kitchen accidents.
So don't be too surprised when you see Selena burn a dish, which almost sets her house on fire.
3. There's an entire adobo episode.
In Season 2, there's an episode where Selena learns how to cook chicken adobo and turon from Filipino chef Jordan Andino.
She even had the essentials, like Datu Puti vinegar, and tried eating it with a fork and spoon.
The American pop star took one bite of adobo, and it made her eyes widen and say, "oh my god!"
The first two seasons of “Selena + Chef” can now be streamed on HBO Go in the Philippines.
The series, executive produced by Selena, also features Angelo Sosa, Antonia Lofaso, Candice Kumai, Daniel Holzman, Jon & Vinny, Ludo Lefebvre, Nancy Silverton, Nyesha Arrington, Roy Choi, and Tonya Holland for season 1; and Aarti Sequeira, Curtis Stone, Evan Funke, Graham Elliot, JJ Johnson, Jordan Andino, José Andrés, Kelis Rogers, Marcela Valladolid and Marcus Samuelsson for season 2. – RC, GMA News
