Chinese New Year 2021 Eats: Deals, promos, packages, and more!

As the Year of the Metal Ox officially begins on Friday, February 12, families all over the world will be feasting to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Whether you want to dine out with your family and friends or just have a simple celebration at home, we've listed down some deals, promos, and packages you might want to check out.

1. Diamond Hotel lunch or dinner buffet

Diamond Hotel's Corniche restaurant will be offering Chinese culinary treasures at the lunch and dinner buffet from February 10 to 12 for P3,180 nett per person.

Chef Yang Yong will be preparing hefty dishes including Roasted Suckling Pig, Steamed Crab with Garlic Butter Sauce, Roast Duck, Double Boiled lack Chicken Soup, Chinese New Year Pan Cai, Sliced Pig Knuckle Aspic and Assorted Dimsum.

The CNY meal wouldn't be complete without the all-time Chinese favorite sweet treat Tikoy (glutinous rice cake) but this time, it's got a flavor: Almond Jelly.

A minimum of spend of P5,000 during the period entitles the customer to pick a prize from the Prosperity Tree, but we have our eye out for the 10-minute online feng shui consultation offer.

2. Special set menus at Lung Hin in Marco Polo 

Marco Polo Ortigas' celebrated Cantonese restaurant Lung Hin has prepared special set menus to welcome the Chinese New Year.

Available from February 11 to February 20, the set menus feature some Chinese favorites like Baked Slipper Lobster in Supreme Stock, Deep-fried Crispy Hong Kong Pigeon, and Braised South African Abalone with Black Mushroom and Vegetables.

Meanwhile, for a la carte orders traditional dishes including Prosperity Salmon Yu Sheng and the Crispy Garoupa Fillet in Corn Sauce are available.

3. Kee Wah treats

Hong Kong heritage brand Kee Wah Bakery makes its way to our shores, and right in time for CNY, too. 

It brings with it, its iconic and festive flavors allowing everyone to welcome the Year of the Ox on a sweet note. There's the New Year Rice Pudding (starts P895 for 635g), for instance, which symbolizes "getting higher year by year." It comes in five variants for every household to enjoy: Original, Low Sugar, Coconut Flavor, Almond Flavor, and Red Dates.

There's also the bakery's signature Panda Cookies — perfect with tea, if we may add — available in packs of a dozen (P495) or 400g gift tin cans (P895).

On offer are assorted snacks gift boxes (starts P1,200) containing biscuits, candies, and more, as well as heritage items — Almond Biscuits, Pineapple Shortcakes, Lotus Seed Past Mooncakes, Phoenix Eggrolls and Pork Floss favorites — made with recipes dating back to 1941.

What's a celebration without cake? Nelnu offers a luscious 8'' Imperial Cheesecake perfect for Lunar New Year celebrations.

It's made with premium cream cheese with delectable blueberry compote inside, and to signify prosperity, the treat is topped with twelve gold ingots made from dark chocolate with berry filling. Sitting on the cake's center is the emblem of luck.
