Katipunan's Ella and the Blackbird permanently closes doors
Katipunan's beloved coffee shop Ella and the Blackbird announced that it will be permanently closing its doors amid the pandemic.
Posting a video that showed the establishment throughout the years on Facebook, Sunday, the coffee shop bid their farewell to their loyal customers after seven years in service.
"It’s with deep sadness to announce that today will be the last day of Ella and the Blackbird," Ella and the Blackbird's administration said.
"2013 was the year we started this journey in a quiet street adjacent to the more busy street, Katipunan Avenue," it added.
"Surrounded with top notch colleges, this was our very own university. We learned a lot, made friends that we’ll treasure forever, experienced a ton, from jazz night to comedy night to spoken words to engagement proposal to prenup shoots to open mics to even mainstream media. Seven years after opening, we are graduating."
The coffee shop expressed their sadness, saying that it will surely miss the laughter, stories, music and experiences it shared with its customers.
"To all of you who have supported us, we will forever be grateful." it added.
Aside from Ella and the Blackbird, numerous establishments have closed down ever since the pandemic started. Katipunan neighbors such as gaming lounge Spawn Point and live music bar Route 196 announced its closure last year.
Establishments continue to close in 2021, with Makati Shangri-La announcing temporary closure as it reorganizes its work force "to adapt to uncertain business environment" amid the pandemic, and more recently, The Legend Villas in Mandaluyong. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
