5 ways you can easily remove slime from okra

Some people like okra, and some people don't.

But sometimes, people are only hesitant because of the gooey yet natural mucilage inside the vegetable which might feel funny in the mouth.

In the latest episode of her online show "ECQusina," Pinas Sarap host Kara David shared five easy ways to take the "slime" out, as well as an easy recipe for some tasty okra curry.

1. Pat and dry. Before cooking, slice the okra into tiny pieces, rinse them in water, then pat them dry with a paper towel.

2. Freezing. The day before cooking, place your okra in the freezer. If you cut it up while it's still frozen, you won't have to deal with the slime.

3. Vinegar. Another trick to reduce the sliminess is to soak the okra in vinegar before cooking it.

4. Tomatoes. If you cook okra with tomatoes, Kara explains, the acidity in the tomatoes will help neutralize some of the sliminess.

5. Fry in high heat. Even though she had patted the okra dry, Kara wanted to be sure to take most of the slime out, so she fried them in high heat. And just as she thought, more goo came out of the veggies!
