How to make affordable 'Sinabawang Manok at Patola'

"Sinabawang Manok at Patola" is not only perfect on a rainy day — it's also an affordable and a very easy dish to make.

Chef Jose Sarasola gave Kapuso viewers a step-by-step guide on GMA-7 morning show "Unang Hirit."

To make the deliciously aromatic chicken soup, you'll only need to prepare the following:

  • Chicken
  • Patola
  • Atsuete
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Oil
  • Water

The first step is to make sure your chicken cuts are thoroughly seasoned with salt and pepper.

You will also need to slice up your patola. Make sure you get the young kind  because it is softer to eat.

Take a large pot and fry the chicken and take them out once they're nice and brown.

Next, sautee your onions and garlic, then add the chicken so they can soak up the flavor. Add some water for the soup, then let it boil with the lid on.

Then it's time to add some essence of atsuete, which is a red-orange condiment that will give a delicious red color to the soup, along with some salt and pepper.

Let it all boil until the patola and chicken soak up the flavors, and voila! Your "Pinatolang Manok" is ready to serve. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
