5 Filipino restaurants for that perfect Philippine Independence Day celebration at home

Philippine Independence Day is on Friday, and it's only right that we celebrate it. How? With Filipino food, of course!

Below are five restaurants serving delicious Filipino food fit for a mumunting Filipino fiesta at home.

1. Papi's Pinoy Kitchen

A cute casual joint in Makati, Papi's serves Filipino faves at reasonable prices. Its party trays are a classic: lumpiang shanghai and baked Pinoy spaghetti start at P750, and if you're feeling a little bit more sosyal, there's the Beef Caldereta con Queso, which starts at P1500.  The prices mentioned are for the medium sized party tray, which serve 12-15 people. Dayap corner Guemica Streets, Palanan, Makati.+639563103833.

2. Pata Fiesta

It may only be a humble food stall somewhere in QC's Project 4, but Para Fiesta serves big in taste. On top of the famous crispy pata, Pata Fiesta's crispy liempo, bangus sisig and lechon kawali are to die for. But it's Pata Fiesta's family meals that really have us going: Pata paired with either pork sisig or tinapa rolls that come with rice and drinks make for a delicious party for four. +639175172527

3. Gubat

A hidden little gem inside UP, Gubat is a purveyor of zero-waste eating, serving food on banana leaves and encouraging guests to eat by hand. Currently on delivery and takeout status, Gubat still serves their delicious meals on banana leaves, placed inside a biodegradable takeout box to prevent spillage.

Order several of its delicious lechon kawali (P190) and mix it with its piniritong isda (P185) and you could setup a cute little boodle fight right at home. A bonus: if you're ordering from within the area, Gubat employs displaced tricycle drivers to deliver. +639666271522

4. Pino Restaurant

Two words for you: kare-kareng Bagnet. Pino's famed kare-kareng bagnet (starts P325) hits the spot every time. Make it extra Pinoy and pair it with their cameron rebosado sa ginataang kalabasa (P465) and maybe some chicharron bulaklak (P195) and you're set for the day. 39 Malingap Street, Teacher's Village, Quezon City. +639152301649

5. Toyo Eatery

While on ECQ, the award-winning Filipino food joint on Pasong Tamo launched a bilao series, perfect for celebrations: There's the silog with seafood, silog espesyal, house-made pansit espesyal, and the newest of the lot, the three-cut pork bbq silog bilao that comes with 15 sticks of bbq for the small sized bilao.

The bilao series comes in two sizes: 10-inch, which is good for up to three (P1,500) and the 16-inch, which is good for up to seven (P2,900).

Toyo also recently launched the pancit lublob bilao, pictured above, which has handmade egg noodles, topped with chicharon, smoked pork and chicken, poached eggs, sautéed veggies and pickles. This one is a bit pricier at P1,700 for the 10-inch and P2,900 for the 16-inch.

Toyo has four designated pickup times (11am, 11:30am, 3pm, and 4pm). +639177208630
