How to make Kara David's suam na mais with three superfoods

A Filipino classic, suam na mais is both yummy and nutritious.

In an episode of "Pinas Sarap," GMA News' Kara David shared her take on the all-time favorite dish, which incorporates three superfoods: malunggay, garlic, and ginger.

Kara first prepares the ingredients: slicing the garlic, onion, and ginger, and plucking out the malunggay leaves.

She peels the shrimp, slicing off the heads but not tossing them out just yet.

She then slices the corn kernels from the cob, but saves the latter to be boiled on water.

To make the dish creamier, Kara blends a portion of the corn kernels.

Kara then starts frying the garlic and ginger in a pot, before following it up with the shrimp (and the heads).

She add some fish sauce, and plucks out the shrimp — and the heads! — so as not to overcook them. She said the heads are now safe to throw away.

The corn, blended and otherwise, are then added to the pot. She pours in some of the water boiled with corn cobs, then lets everything cook for a bit.

She then puts back the shrimp, adds salt to taste, and as a finishing touch, she sprinkles the malunggay.

And there we have it: a creamy, nutritious suam na mais a la Kara David!
