Here's how you can make homemade milk tea — Dalgona style!

South Korea's Dalgona coffee is all the rage right now as more and more people are trying new things in the kitchen amid the enhanced community quarantine.

To those who prefer milk tea over coffee, worry not, because Healthy Foodie Philippines just released a step-by-step tutorial on how to make your own homemade milk tea — Dalgona style!

"For those who are looking for a non-caffeinated Dalgona style drink, worry not, these Dalgona-inspired Milk Tea is perfect for non-coffee lovers," said the organization, which promotes semi-vegetarian recipes.  "We understand, things can get a little boring but now you have something fun to do. Start whisking!"

In the video tutorial they posted on Monday, the group showcased how to make the refreshing and aesthetically pleasing beverage with just these ingredients:

Regular version:

  • 5 tea bags of black tea
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup muscovado sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • milk

Creamier version:

  • 250 ml all purpose cream
  • 2 packs (24 g) milk tea powder

For the regular version, simply brew the tea bags of black tea with a cup of hot water for eight minutes.

After that, Add 3 1/2 of that brewed tea to 1/2 cup of muscovado sugar. Let this simmer for eight to ten minutes until the syrup thickens.

Meanwhile, whisk two egg whites until fluffy. Pour the hot syrup into the egg whites to make the egg whites safe to eat.

After you mix that all up, all you have to do is add it to a cup of milk, and viola! You're all set to drink your mouth-watering beverage!

However, for those who want an easier step and creamier output, you can opt to whisk together 250 mL of all purpose cream and 24 grams of milk tea powder. After you mix it together, you can now add it to your glass of milk!

This Dalgona-style beverages end is currently viral as everyone is encouraged to stay at home amid the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Although some milk tea shops are open to accepting delivery orders, some have temporarily closed down due to the quarantine so it doesn't hurt to brew and whisk our own milk tea for a bit!
