Baguio shakes things up with ube, strawberry taho
Heads up, taho lovers! Baguio City is now offering different flavors of the classic Filipino delicacy.
Aside from the original brown sugar syrup or arnibal, Baguio vendors are mixing things up with strawberry or ube syrups, according to Darlene Cay's Wednesday report on 24 Oras.
It's not surprising that one of the new flavors is strawberry, as the city is famous for the fruit.
"Karamihan po kasi nasanay po sila sa original na tao kaya pag naririnig po nila yung strawberry, lumalapit po sila tapos trina-try po nila, gusto po nila matikman," said taho seller Tony Sibal.
He said tourists in the area are looking for flavors different from the usual.
"Nag-umpisa po itong ube sa ibang park tapos minsan may naghahanap po kasing turista na may ubo po ba kayo, ganoon. Kaya nung may naghahanap po ng ganoon, gumawa na rin po kami," he said.
However, Baguio is not the only area in the Philippines going out of the norm.
In Quezon City, a vendor has begun selling taho with langka as an additional ingredient.
"Kakaiba 'yung may langka talaga. 'Di gaano mabenta kapag walang flavor, kapag may langka maraming bumibili," vendor Bon Gaufo said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
