Here's a healthier alternative to milk tea you can easily make at home
Milk tea is undeniably yummy, but for some, it's an addiction already.
Despite its popularity, too much milk tea can damage our health, especially with its high sugar level.
Luckily, Chef Chad Datu revealed a healthier alternative to our milk tea addiction with the use of turmeric — locally known as luyang dilaw.
Turmeric is a golden spice that contains curcumin, nutrients that contain anti-inflammatory properties that help people with arthritis and even help us sleep better at night.
In order to create a golden turmeric tea, a healthy substitute to our regular milk tea, all you need are the following:
- 2 cups unsweetened milk
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 2 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 pinch black pepper
"Instead na sugar-y na milk tea, dito naman healthy na milk tea ang gagawin natin," Datu said.
In a saucepan, simply put the milk and ginger together. Afterwards, add the cinnamon powder and honey.
When the milk starts to boil, turn off the fire and add the turmeric powder. Simply whisk the ingredients all together and be careful not to cook the turmeric powder to retain its nutrients.
Lastly, add a pinch of black pepper since it contains piperine, nutrients that help the body absorb the curcumin of turmeric powder more.
And viola! You have with yourself a healthier version of your regular milk tea.
