How to make yummy cauliflower rice so you can finally ditch white rice
For most Pinoys, rice is life.
And while rice is a source of much-needed energy because of its carbohydrate content, too much of white rice is not a good thing.
One cup of white rice has about 200 to 240 calories, and has a glycemic index of 43.
Lois Anne Manansala, a registered nutritionist-dietitian from Manila Doctors Hospital, said in an episode of Pinoy MD that too much white rice can cause weight gain and an increase in blood sugar.
However, there are healthier alternatives to white rice, one of which might surprise you: cauliflower!
Cauliflower rice only has 28 calories per cup and has a high fiber content. It is also rich antioxidants.
"Siya ay under doon sa category ng gulay na merong little to low lamang na glycemic index, ibig sabihin hindi siya masyadong nakakaapekto sa sugar ng isang tao," Manansala said.
Chef Winston Luna gave a step by step guide on how to prepare a yummy dish with cauliflower rice.
He then cooked the same dish but with white rice, and then asked a blindfolded guest to choose between the two meals.
And the winner? Cauliflower rice!
