This Japanese restaurant in Greenhills turns into an outdoor izakaya on weekends and it looks amazing
Greenhills in San Juan has long been a favorite when it comes to bargain shopping. These days, people are discovering its delicious food offerings, too.
It has plenty to offer. From decades-old OG shops — like Kamico's tacos, proudly saying it's the best in town, Choc Full O' Nuts' siopao, and all the Chinese dishes at Le Ching — to contemporary culinary establishments opening shop in the area.
Enter Kamameshi Town Honten. A brainchild of restaurateur Bryan Tiu (of Wafu and Teriyaki Boy fame), the fairly new restaurant in the famed shopping complex opened in early 2018.
It offers classic Kamameshi or steamed rice cooked in cast iron pots with various toppings. Aside from Kamameshi, they also offer a wide variety of Japanese favorites like sushi, sashimi, ramen, and tonkatsu. But it’s their latest offering that’s drumming up a buzz over the weekend.
Taking advantage of the slightly cooling weather, the team behind Kamameshi Town Honten launched a weekend “Food Feast” to give their guests that Japanese street food feel.
An outdoor izakaya, it comes complete with Japanese lanterns and banners, yellow lights, wooden benches and tables, and street food stalls preparing food as you order.
“We have launched the food feast in Kamameshi Town mainly because we would like our customers in Greenhills to have that eat-out experience in a Japanese food street, to unwind and enjoy Japanese food and drinks,” I-Foods Group Inc. Marketing Head Hermie Laygo shared with GMA News Online.
Here are our favorites from the various food stalls at Kamameshi Town Honten’s Food Feast:
Our mortal stomachs could only handle so much food, but their Japanese-style Hotdogs and Banana Tempura are definitely on our list for our next visit. — LA, GMA News
