Ampalaya is hardly anybody’s favorite. It’s bitter, generally unpleasant, and when added to a dish like pinakbet, can instantly turn it into a sad affair.
But author Augie Rivera imagines it wasn’t always the case for the bitter gourd. In his “Alamat ng Ampalaya,” published by Adarna house, we learn of the time when Ampalaya was pale, boring, and tasteless.
No less than Jessica Soho narrates the story in an episode of AHA.
