Drew & Iya’s recipe for happiness

Certified foodies at heart, both Drew Arellano and Iya Villania continue to step up their skills in the kitchen for their growing family of four. Drew Arellano makes sure that when he or his family arrives home, the meal waiting for them is always comforting and delicious. He has also grown more conscious in educating himself about food when he watches cooking shows and when he travels. Iya Villania-Arellano, on the other hand, says she has grown more confident in the kitchen, becoming more experimental by giving usual recipes her own modifications. She has even involved Primo in helping her with simple kitchen tasks.

As Drew and Iya’s family grows, so have their views on food and cooking evolved; marked largely by their involvement in the show Home Foodie. As regulars on the award-winning San Miguel and GMA cooking collaboration for five seasons, the show has helped them gain knowledge and confidence in the kitchen— from observing and preparing the ingredients to cooking special dishes on their own. Through all this, what has noticeably grown, too, is Home Foodie itself.

Helmed by Chef Llena ‘Yen’ Tan-Arcenas and co-chefs Martin Narisma and John Valley, Home Foodie has become not just the go-to for learning easy and delicious meals but also a trusted source for affordable quality and reliable cooking solutions. While Season 5 drew in the viewers’ involvement by allowing them to send their most common kitchen dilemmas solved by the resident chefs; the latest season takes it a step further by letting viewers experience it firsthand. Witness as they actively taste the dishes prepared by Drew, Iya, and the chefs, and also weigh in with their own food and cooking experiences through the show’s different segments.

What still takes center stage are the show’s new recipes using everyone’s favorite San Miguel foods products. Chef John Valley, one of Home Foodie’s mainstay chefs, says his favorite recipe this season is Spicy Corned Beef Sinigang because it is an innovation that brings together his favorites: Purefoods Corned Beef and Sinigang. Chef Martin chose Chewy Chocolate Fudge as his season favorite because of the happiness it brings to anyone who tries it. Chef Yen takes pride in their Sisig Fried Rice and their discovery of Tokwa’n TJ.

Here is a taste of what’s in store for you this season:

Drew and Iya have come a long way, both in terms of their family, and their Home Foodie journey along with Chef Yen, Chef Martin, and Chef John. They even liken each other to food like adobo or croquettas: one requiring many steps to achieve, the other easy to do yet with a complex chemistry. These two dishes make a stark contrast, but find a common meeting point in being equally sumptuous, comforting, and filling; notably comparable to their exciting relationship and marriage.
