White Camp Coffee & Kitchen promises good coffee, dining adventures, and a little bit more

A cup of fresh coffee that hits us on all five senses as all good cups of coffee do, instantly gives us a comfortable feeling; a magical elixir that immediately tells us to slow down, maybe grab a newspaper or book, spend the afternoon reading or conversing with good company.

This is exactly the vibe I felt entering  White Camp Coffee & Kitchen, a seven-month old establishment at the corner of Sgt. Esguerra and Mother Ignacia Avenues in Quezon City.

The bright interiors, in stark contrast to the usual cafe decors and motifs, is inpisred by the first word in the company’s name: white.

Apart from all-day breakfast staples like classic waffles (P180/whole, P120/half for buttermilk and matcha), pancakes (ranging from P160-P180), and Pinoy rice meals (P269-P299), White Camp Coffee & Kitchen also offers pasta and main dishes to suit the ever discerning and evolving Filipino palette.

The Korean Fried Chicken (P279) is the cafe's best seller, as the solid side dish, Cheesy Wanton with Truffle Honey (P165) — crispy fried wanton stuffed with melted cheese and savory truffle honey. Hot-tip: eat the wantons immediately upon serving as the melted cheese tends to solidify quickly.

Staying true to the "camp" in the cafe's name is the S'mores, chocolate waffles topped with campfire mallows (P210/whole, P145/half). We think a graham cracker waffle would've been better than chocolate, but let us know what you think, after you've tried it.

And then, of course the coffee, a must especially when an espresso bar is figured prominently inside the premises. Co-owner Diane Gollon explains that there are two blends normally on offer: the signature Campfire espresso blend (bold, full body, and sweet) and the seasonal “Adventure” blend that tends to be fruity, complex, and sweet.

From there, multitudes of coffee drinks and preparations are available. Espresso starts at P100, Flat White and Latte at P140, and Cold Brew at P160.

Gollon and another co-owner, Dexter Ong, proudly share that they also try to give coffee lovers a “worldwide coffee experience” by introducing guest beans that sourced from various coffee shops around the world.

The guest beans and resulting brews allow drinkers to explore the world and have a multi-sensory adventure just by entering White Camp’s premises.

Single origin specialty coffee are also available and can be prepared using any of the following preferred methods: pour over (Hario V60, Kalita Wave, Chemex, Aeropress), Fresh press, or Clever Dripper. Though not in the menu, one can ask co-owner and main barista Raymond Gollon to use the siphon method, which should be familiar among UCC patrons.

Parking spaces, sockets, and complimentary WiFi are also available.

White Camp Coffee & Kitchen is located at The Ignacia Space 62 Sgt. Esguerra cor. Mother Ignacia Ave., Brgy. South Triangle, Quezon City and is open Mon-Sat from 8am-11pm.
