Another contender for the tag ‘Best Salted Egg Chips’ just landed in Manila

The Salted Egg trend doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere. Another contender for the ‘Best Salted Egg Chips’ — in fact the brand that first mixed salted egg with potato chips — has just landed in town.

People, meet the Golden Duck. Much like its more popular competitor, Golden Duck hails from Singapore and offers two variants: Potato crisps aka potato chips generously covered with salted egg and fish skin crisps.

It’s only two years old, and at the helm of production is an “artisanal chef who has done enough refinement in a five-star hotel,” reads a portion of its press statement.

If you’ve always wondered what makes 'fish skin' chips, well: Golden Duck’s is made with dory skin flavored with salted egg yolk, chilli, curry leaves, sugar and salt.

The potato crisps meanwhile is made with salted egg yolk, chilli, curry leaves, milk powder, sugar, and salt as well.

We tried the potato crisps and were struck by how fine they were — dare we say finer than Irvin's — with  the salted egg yolk and milk (perhaps) giving it a nice thick coating. We preferred its better level of spice, kicking in only after the initial sweet flavor tickled our senses. Perfect with beer, we tell you.

We're now staring at a bag of Golden Duck fish skin crisps, waiting for us to bury our faces in it. Excuse us as we do. — LA, GMA News
