Little Tokyo in Makati not closing down according to restaurant owners

Not true.

Beloved Little Tokyo in Makati is not closing any time soon. This is what Hana in Little Tokyo clarified on its Twitter account today, Thursday, August 17.

"Hi everyone!! We would like to kindly ask for a favor. Please do not spread rumors that Little Tokyo is closing down. We are not," they announced via a Twitter thread.

"We have talked to the landlord many [times and] they said we are not. We have thought rumors will be gone, but it seem the false is spreading more and more and it is hurting us badly," the thread continued.

GMA News Online reached out via a phonecall to the management of Nodaya, who also denied that there are plans to close down Little Tokyo.

Judge Maryann Corpus Mañalac of the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 141 issued a notice to vacate the Mile Long property to Sunvar Realty Development Corp. and its tenants on Monday.

The lot's owner, National Power Corp. (Napocor), informed subleaser Philippine Development Alternatives Foundation (PDAF) and Sunvar to vacate the property as the government planned to sell the lot in 2002.

Sunvar challenged Napocor's decision and the case was taken to court.

In June 2015, the Makati MeTC Branch 61 ruled in favor of the government and ordered Sunvar to vacate the property.

Rumors of Little Tokyo closing went viral Wednesday night after online food magazine Pepper.ph reported that in 18 months, dining destination Little Tokyo will be closing, too.
