Pizza and ice cream, anyone? New treats to try
Summer may have officially ended, but these treats launched during the season are still available to be savored. After all, who doesn’t want pizza and ice cream? Find out what’s to stay in today’s roundup.
Affogato series by J. CO
A traditional affogato is a scoop of ice cream drowned in a shot of piping hot espresso. It is then either consumed as a mildly cold beverage or eaten like an espresso “soup.”
J.CO, however, builds on the Affogato concept and have replaced the espresso with cold coffee and chocolate. The results are three cooler variants—Iced Café Avocado, Iced JCoccino and the Iced Chocolate. Flavored by beans sourced from the Sumatra and Sulawesi regions in Indonesia, each cup offers an interesting flavor different from the other.
Author’s pick: Definitely the Iced Café Avocado (the one on the left in the photo above). Avocado with coffee and chocolate ice cream sounds confusing at first, but I was pleasantly surprised by how each flavor married well with the other. The drink starts with a predictable coffee taste, then the avocado flavor kicks at around the seven-second mark. It is unexpected and delightful.
The Affogato series is now a staple at J.CO’s menu nationwide.
Hawaiian Overload Pizza by Greenwich
Greenwich highlighted its most popular pizza, the Hawaiian Pizza (right), by having a pizza party first week of May.
The fast food chain re-introduced its own take on the Hawaiian pizza and placed a spotlight on this classic. Aside from the generous topping of sweet pineapple, the pizza is laden with smoky bacon and two kinds of ham, then finished off with mozzarella and cheddar cheese on a freshly baked crust.
While the debate on whether or not to put pineapples on your pizza continues around the world, in the Philippines at least many diners love this sweet treat on their pies, as the Hawaiian delight continues to be a favorite in Greenwich branches nationwide.
Carte D’Or Gelato
This premium British ice cream brand made its Southeast Asian debut in the Philippines on May 23, and offers a line-up of flavors crafted with real Australian cream and ingredients sourced from around the world.
Locally, Carte D’Or is offering four variants: Salted Caramel, Double Dark Chocolate, Pistachio and Chocolate Hazelnut.
Author’s pick: While the Pistachio offers a taste of California, the chunks of Belgian chocolate stirred into thick chocolate gelato offered by the Double Dark Chocolate (above) made me forget my calorie count. This chocolate on chocolate flavor is creamy and luscious.
Carte D’ Or is now available in select supermarkets and convenience stores nationwide. Price starts at P295 for 475 ml. — BM, GMA News
