A Balearic-inspired grill and an Ibiza vibe in the city

I’ve heard tales of Ibiza—an island in the Mediterranean Sea that is notorious for its nightlife and party lifestyle. It was on my bucket list for a while, until I outgrew it. Now, I prefer destinations with a more laid-back vibe where I can simply relax, indulge in some good food, and maybe enjoy some cool entertainment.

Ibiza Beach Club meets my expectations.

It is the newest dining and entertainment destination in the metro, opening on April 16, right in the heart of Bonifacio Global City. I have been to the first branch in Cebu, but Ibiza BGC is massive: the 1,000-seater flagship restaurant occupies 4,000 square meters in one of the city’s prime structures. But instead of getting a view of the beach, visitors would see landscaped greenery and the cityscape.

Manny O., a prominent entrepreneur and award-winning vintner, conceptualized this uniquely Filipino brand that has a registered trademark. The brand has become known for its Balearic-inspired, signature 15-course grill, which left a memorable mark on my mind during my last Cebu trip. I was happy to find out that the new Ibiza BGC is more accessible to urbanites like me.

The meat of the matter

I came with an empty stomach. I was prepared for the unlimited grilled meat and seafood choices—Filet Mignon, Angus Rib-Eye Steak, Baby Back Ribs, Ostrich Meat, New Zealand Lamb, buttery Rock Lobster or Salmon, Tiger Prawns, Cuttlefish, Chicken, Crispy Pork Belly, and Beef Short Ribs. As if these weren’t enough, the 15-course repertoire also includes a serving of salad, Pao de Quejo (cheese bread), side dish, and grilled Queen Piña specialty dessert in its lineup.

I paced myself throughout the meal, tried as much as I can, and enjoyed the luxury of dining with bespoke tableware. In between those rich and meaty bites, I absorbed the wonderful ambiance—from the impressive tent-like ceiling accents to the riveting entertainment on the center stage.

My visit coincided with Latin night and I witnessed world-class acts that showcased live singing and dancing to upbeat Latin tunes. You might chance upon a different performance from the 20-member Ibiza Beach Club Show Team. Whether there’s a live act, a guest DJ, or a featured band, these all use the most advanced sound and lighting system in the country, D & B Audiotechnik and Martin Audio.

While having a hearty feast, my eyes also feasted on the lively atmosphere—its bright lights, clean and white furnishings, not to mention the enticing lounges and water features surrounding plush seats—these all added more excitement to my dining experience.

It was fun every time a server arrived at our table with a massive skewer of meats. I didn’t know what would come next but I would make sure to get a serving or two. My favorites were the tiger prawns and the filet mignon, which were cooked just right. The seafood and meat were juicy and tender and I couldn’t help but pair my food with some of Manny O’s red wine. I relished each bite, took my time eating, slowly sipped my vino, and made my food last until the live show was over.

For those with smaller appetites, Ibiza also offers an a la carte and tapas menu that includes must-not-miss house-prepared charcuterie, Eivissa Paella, Manny O. Signature Wagyu Burger, and the all-time favorite collection of Mövenpick ice cream from Switzerland.

My epic meal ended with the restaurant’s signature dessert, Queen Pineapple, which was roasted with cinnamon sugar, served with honey, fresh yogurt, and crushed nuts. Cooking the pineapple changed its flavor profile to a more mellow and sweeter taste. It was just the perfect ending to my Ibiza experience.
