The Tokyo Fog Cutter and more: Tasty treats to try this summer

It's summer eats and treats for today’s round-up, featuring a proudly local premium brand and its corner store/restaurant, an international ice cream delicacy, and an Asian tasting room.

The Delimondo Store

Delimondo Food Specialties, Inc. maker of the very popular local corned beef with the same name introduces its new store in JAKA Center, Makati City.

Following the identity of the brand, the store is crisp, clean, and straightforward, with white walls, marble tables, quaint wooden chairs and an array of products.

The place also serves food that uses Delimondo products used as ingredients, specialty cakes, and freshly baked bread. Customers can taste the items and have them cooked so that they can dine in the restaurant.

Aside from their famous corned beef, the store carries other goods such as sausages, deli meats, oils, marinades and prepared food like callos and bacalao. Restaurant menu include the corned beef caldereta lasagna, spicy tinapa rice and luncheon meat kimchi fried rice.

Author’s Pick: The sausage ragu pasta. This bucatini pasta covered in Delimondo sausage-based tomato sauce is my favorite! The sauce is heavily textured and rich, and the combination of the sausage and the fresh tomatoes results in a sour, sweet, unpredictable and delicious dish.

To finish, I was surprised by their chocolate cake—unexpected from a mostly meat store. It was moist and evenly flavored: not too sweet, not too heavy. A slice is just enough to keep you debating should you want more.

Delimondo is at 2111 Urban Avenue corner Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City.

Toast Asian Kitchen & Tasting Room

Unique Asian food combinations are featured in this drinking and dining destination in Pasig City. Its chefs take traditional Asian recipes and personalize them by adding a twist by way of different cooking styles or ingredients.

Take the "Gyozig," for example. At Toast, the Japanese dumpling is stuffed with sisig. There’s also the salted egg crème brulee and the restaurant's signature longganisa pasta, which uses premium Vigan longganisa.

Cocktails are also given special attention, with renowned Singaporean mixologist Jason Gray training Toast’s staff on how mix and serve drinks.

Author’s Pick: For summer, quench your thirst with classic bar staples like mojitos, martinis and amaretto sours—guaranteed to give your warm days and nights an extra kick. Toast's specialties include Jack Sparrow, Summer in the City, East Meets West and The Mankari Sour, all of which use top-notch imported liquor bases and are also worth a sip or two or three.

Toast Asian Kitchen & Tasting Room is at the 30th Mall, Meralco Avenue, Ortigas, Pasig City.

Magnum Ice Cream Red Velvet

Magnum's Red Velvet has a rich milk and white chocolate swirl coated in a cream cheese and white chocolate shell.

International ice cream brand Magnum welcomes summer with its new flavor: Red Velvet.

Inspired by—what else?—the red velvet cake, Magnum's new flavor is a decadent milk and white chocolate swirl wrapped in a white Belgian chocolate and cream cheese flavor. It's pretty much red velvet cake on a stick.
