NCCA's 'Sinigang versus Adobo' poll divides the nation
Choosing between two of the country's best loved dish is proving to be just as divisive as the recent presidential race.
On Tuesday, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) posted a simple photo on Facebook pitting sinigang against adobo.
NCCA was quick to disclaim that the quest for the "Pambansang Ulam" is all for fun—but who would've thought that social media users would use history and geography to defend their "vote."
#TeamSinigang argues that the ingredients to make the sour soup is "indigenous" to the Philippines and though it resembles a dish close to singgang of Malaysia, it only means that we're truly part of an Asian neighborhood — not primarily a Spanish colony.
However, #TeamAdobo says that it's the more famous dish — easier to prepare and die-hard fans swear they can eat it every day. It's also the more recognizable dish, they argue, and it's something foreigners have come to associate with Filipinos.
Others refused to cast a vote for either teams, saying that there are other dishes worth the title: sisig, Bicol Express, tuyo, and dinuguan among others. Tinola? Kinilaw? Isaw?
The list goes on—there are a lot of great dishes found here!
As of 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday, #TeamSinigang leads the Twitter poll conducted by the NCCA, but only by 2 percent.
Katuwaan lang mga kababayan, kung may ng pambansang ulam, ano ang pipiliin mo, Adobo o Sinigang? ???? #KulturaPoll
