Fruits getting popular in Cebu as temperatures rise
With temperatures continuing to rise as summer approaches, fruits are gaining popularity as a thirst quencher in Cebu.
The Department of Health in Central Visayas agrees, saying that fruits high in fiber are best for the season, GMA Cebu reported Thursday.
In Consolacion town, watermelons are among the more popular fruit, being sold for P30 per kilo or P10 per slice.
Buyers can also get a "fruit mix" or a drink made from watermelons, bananas, apples and papayas, for P20.
"[Kung] mainit at uhaw, tapos maghahanap ka ng coconut o pampalamig," said customer Randy Cenon.
But you don't have to turn fruit into juice to enjoy them: even eating fruit can quench your thirst as well as provide you with fiber, says the DOH.
"Fruits also contain fluid. Marami ang mga watermelon at mga oranges; that will be very recommended," said Ligaya Moneva of the DOH Region 7 health education promotions office. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
