The Perfect Pint brews the perfect match: Craft beer and complementary bites
More than just being able to assess levels of quality, having good taste also means the capacity to identify what goes well with what. When it comes to wine and food, for example, choosing perfect pairings involves matching flavors, textures, and tastes for the best dining experience.
Now, gastro pub The Perfect Pint takes food matching up a notch with “The Perfect Match,” a unique food pairing event revolving around the restaurant’s primary offering – high-quality craft beer, straight from local microbreweries.
The booming business of brewing
Established just this year in Bonifacio Global City, The Perfect Pint is as young and fresh as the brewing industry it embraces. It's the brainchild of the Tempongko brothers, corporate professionals with a deep appreciation of beer who are out to promote and strengthen the local craft beer industry.
The Perfect Pint serves craft beer from the tap and in bottles. Diners can order special brews from the tap such as the Katipunan Indio Pale Ale, Privo Praha Classic, and Xavierbier’s Message in a Bottle, or choose to sample the Palaweno Huner, Fat Pauly’s Sultan, Joe’s Brew Sierra Madre, and other craft beers in bottles. The restaurant also has its own special house brew, the Guts N’ Glory.
In addition to its robust menu of locally crafted beers, the restaurant offers mouth-watering dishes designed by Chef Gene Gonzales to go with the brews, introducing the concept of craft beer pairing to patrons looking for something new and exciting.
Finding 'The Perfect Match'
On October 20, the restaurant launched “The Perfect Match,” billed as the country’s “first and only craft beer and food pairing showdown.” For P599, diners can try a set of the restaurant’s craft beer offerings, each paired with original food recipes from renowned chefs, craft beer brewers, and food magazine editors and writers. The recipes were made for the event, specially designed to enhance and complement the distinct flavor of each craft beer they are paired with. After sampling the pairings, the diners can rank them and nominate their favorite match-up.
The first batch featured 4 pairs of craft beer and food: Chef Gigi Angkaw’s Thai Fish Cakes paired with Joe’s Brew Sierra Madre Wheat Ale, Chef Martin Del Prado’s Sausage Kebab paired with Joe’s Brew Fish Rider Pale Ale, Chef J.A. Ventura’s Chorizo Filipino Tacos paired with Privo Praha Dark Lager, and Chef Ojie Reloj’s Murtabak paired with Katipunan Signal No. 1 Stout.
The light flavor of Joe’s Brew Sierra Madre Wheat Ale contrasts the strong, herby Thai Fish Cakes, allowing the latter’s taste to rise above the former.
Meanwhile, the second matchup combines the sumptuous Sausage Kebab with the Fish Rider Pale Ale to take patrons on a unique gastronomic ride.
The malty, smoky flavor of the Privo Praha Dark Lager is adequately complemented by the distinctly Filipino Chorizo Tacos in the third pairing.
Power meets power in the last match-up, as the spicy Murtabak meets the dominating flavor of the Katipunan Signal No. 1 Stout. The union of these two strong flavors brings a savory, if a bit overpowering, experience for the taste buds.
More exciting pairings are slated for the coming weeks – October 27-30’s match-ups will feature recipes from brewers, food writers’ special creations will be paired with craft beers from November 3-6, and chefs will take the spotlight once again on November 10-13. Diners and foodies who are looking for an extraordinary food adventure are invited to swing by and sample these limited-time-only pairings.
