Jen Rosendahl shares her last moments with late dad Volker
Jen Rosendahl opened up about her last moments with her father, Volker Rosendahl, who passed away from prostate cancer 10 years ago.
Mikee Quintos and Chef Ylyt visited Jen and her husband, Jules Chanco, for the latest episode of "Lutong Bahay," where they cooked spaghetti and garlic bread.
Jen shared that her spaghetti recipe is memorable and meaningful to her because it was her dad's favorite.
According to the Kapuso comedienne, her dad would always be happy when she'd cooked the dish even when he was already sick with cancer and can't eat much.
"Nagluluto ako sa kaniya, tuwang-tuwa naman siya pero hindi rin siya makakain na eh so tikim lang siya, 'Thank you, anak' pero alam ko kasi favorite niya," she said.
The "Pepito Manaloto" star also talked about her last moments with her dad.
On New Year's Eve in 2023, she recalled cooking dinner for the family and then asking her dad if she and her husband could go out at midnight to party.
"Nagluto ako tapos sabi ko sa daddy ko okay lang ba sa 'yo na labas pa kami, gigimik. Nagbihis ako siya pa pumili ng damit ko," she said.
Jen and her husband got home around three in the morning, and she remembered feeling nervous because she could hear ambulance sirens upon entering their village.
It turns out that her dad had to be brought to the intensive care unit after he removed his tube. After meeting the nurse, Jen went to her dad to ask him if they could put it back.
"Pumasok ako sinabi ko, 'Daddy squeeze my hand if they can put it back kasi you need it' sabi ko ganiyan, 'Mom is just in the other room.' Tapos nag-squeeze siya na pumayag, 'yun 'yung last interaction namin," she said.
"Syempre nagsisi ako kasi pagimik-gimik ka pa, dami ko pa sasabihin, di ko nagawa, kaya pinagp-pray ko na makita [niya] ako," she added.
Mikee then asked her what she would tell her dad if she was given the chance.
Per Jen, she would apologize to him and thank him.
"Sorry for the times na dami kong pagkukulang syempre mas bata ako noon. Thank you for raising me into the woman that I am today and for the protection and the unconditional love that he gave me talaga," she said.
Meanwhile Jules described his wife as a strong person who does not give up.
"Strong, malakas 'yung kaniyang willpower to overcome, parang mas kinakaya niya na kahit hindi na niya kaya, pipilitin niya na kayanin," he said.
"Lutong Bahay" airs on GTV on weekdays at 5:45 p.m.
