Candy Pangilinan shares what she has learned from son Quentin
Candy Pangilinan shared what she has learned from her son Quentin in the latest episode of Mikee Quintos' show, "Lutong Bahay."
Mikee and Chef Hazel visited Candy's home where they cooked beef steak and bagoong rice with Candy and her son Quentin.
While sampling the dishes they cooked, Candy talked about her 2016 movie, "Star na si Van Damme Stallone," where she worked with nine individuals with Down syndrome. Per the actress, she was able to use the things she teaches to Quentin during her work in the movie.
"Nagamit ko dun 'yung mga tinuturo ko kay Quentin cause alam ko yung problema nila sa fine motor skills]," she said.
Her son, Quentin, is a neurodivergent child. His diagnosis is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Candy shared that Quentin has taught her a lot of things in life, mainly how to understand other people.
"Quentin has taught me a lot. Kasi minsan iisipin mo rin na baka hindi nila alam, takot din sila, hindi nila alam kung paano magrereact, paano ihahandle. Ang natutunan ko kay Quentin ay ang umintindi sa ibang tao, di ba, gusto kong maintindihan nila ang anak ko so kailangan matuto din ako umintindi sa iba," she said.
She first found out about his condition when he was nine months old. He had him examined by a doctor after she noticed that he did not have eye coordination.
She also said that as a solution-based person, she did not get to emote much about Quentin's condition because she didn't really have the time.
Candy, however, has strong faith in the Lord.
"Wala ka nang ibang tatakbuhan kasi nakita ko nga hindi kaya ng gamot, hindi kaya ng charm, hindi kaya ng patawa," she said.
Although she raised Quentin as a single mom, the actress told Mikee that she did not feel like she was alone because she had her family and friends.
"I don't think mag-isa ako. Meron ako pamilya, I have my mom, my sister, I have my friends. Ito ang reality, ito ang realidad, so walang kulang, sakto tayo."
In June, Quentin graduated from senior high school.
On Instagram, Candy shared a clip from his graduation ceremony, where he received the Most Cheerful award.
