AiAi delas Alas and Gerald Sibayan: A relationship timeline
Aiai delas Alas and Gerald Sibayan have split up after 10 years together, almost seven years of which as a married couple.
In the past, the Comedy Queen, who is almost 30 years older than Gerald, has referenced her own love life as proof that good things come to those who wait. Through the years, their relationship has seen its fair share of negative comments from naysayers due to their age gap.
On Monday, AiAi confirmed on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” that she and Gerald have been separated since October.
Here is a timeline of their relationship.
September 2014: Gerald confirms relationship with Aiai
AiAi and Gerald's relationship was confirmed by the latter in 2014.
Gerald was a Sports Science student and badminton player at De La Salle University, where AiAi’s son Sancho also studied, when they started their romance.
Following relationship rumors, Gerald confirmed his relationship with the actress to Pep in September 2014. At the time, Gerald was 20 and AiAi was 49 years old, turning 50.
Despite their 30-year age gap, however, Aiai said later in the same year that love knows no age.
"Ang pag-ibig naman, wala ‘yan sa edad, e. Dumating siya sa buhay ko ng… siguro ibinigay siya sa akin kasi hindi ko naman ini-expect yun e. 'Yun yung time na ayoko na talagang mag-boyfriend," she said.
April 2017: AiAi and Gerald get engaged
AiAi announced her engagement to Gerald in an Instagram post. Gerald proposed to the Comedy Queen on their third anniversary.
“Some knots are meant to be tied forever. Our journey is not perfect but it's ours and I’ll stick with you till the end,” the actress said.
December 2017: AiAi and Gerald get married
AiAi and Gerald got married in December 2017, eight months after the actress announced their engagement. The ceremony happened at the Christ the King in Green Meadows, Quezon City.

Prior to marrying Gerald, the actress had been married twice: first to Miguel Vera, the father of her children Nicolo and Sophia. She also married Jed Salang in 2013 but they separated soon after, confirming in January 2014 that she was 100% single.
March 2021: Gerald turns their home into a Hello Kitty wonderland for their anniversary
AiAi was touched when Gerald transformed their home into a Hello Kitty wonderland for their seventh anniversary.
The place was fully decorated and transformed with items featuring the beloved Sanrio character.
In the same year, AiAi also told supporters to never lose hope when it comes to finding love. “Nakita niyo naman ako, di ba?” she said.
May 2021: AiAi and Gerald fly to the United States
AiAi and Gerald flew to the U.S. to get their COVID-19 vaccines in May 2021.
In December, the couple flew back to the U.S. to spend Christmas in North Virginia. It was a milestone for them as it was their first white Christmas as husband and wife. They also stayed in the country for six months.
AiAi is a permanent resident in the U.S. and got her green card in 2015. Gerald got his green card after being petitioned by AiAi following their marriage in 2017.
November 2022: AiAi and Gerald renew their vows
After living and working in San Francisco, California for months, AiAi and Gerald flew to Las Vegas to renew their vows. AiAi said the trip was also in celebration of Gerald’s birthday.
April 2023: AiAi gushes over Gerald on 9th anniversary
AiAi was filled with love as she celebrated her ninth anniversary with Gerald in 2023.
In an Instagram post, the actress said her views on men changed because of their relationship.
“[Totoo] pala na may lalaking maayos, may asawang mabait[,] meron palang forever... akala ko bilihan lang damit ang may forever (21),” she said.
In July of the same year, AiAi listed the 10 rules she follows when it comes to relationships.
April 2024: AiAi and Gerald celebrate 10th anniversary
AiAi and Gerald reached a relationship milestone in April 2024 when they celebrated their 10th anniversary.
The couple celebrated with a photoshoot holding balloons that spell out, “10.”
"ONE DECADE DOWN, FOREVER TO GO," AiAi wrote on Instagram. "Ten years of togetherness ... Thank you dear LORD for our marriage."
October 2024: AiAi does not mention Gerald in her guesting on 'My Mother, My Story'
In Aiai's guesting on “My Mother, My Story," which aired on October 27, she was asked by host Boy Abunda what her fear was in that moment.
"Actually, 'yung totoo, 'yung mag-isa, pero I think pag dumating 'yung time na 'yun, kaya ko naman," she said.
On November 8, Tito Boy shared on "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda" that many speculated about Aiai and Gerald's relationship status because she did not talk about him in her guesting on "My Mother, My Story.
He also said that viewers noticed the actress had sad eyes during the episode.
November 2024: AiAi confirms separation from Gerald
In an episode on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Monday, the actress confirmed that she and Gerald have split up.
"Hiwalay na kami. Last month pa. Basta hindi ko makakalimutan. October 14, nag-chat siya, madaling araw sa Pilipinas. 'Yun nga. Sinabi niya na gusto niya magkaanak at hindi na siya happy," AiAi said.
"So medyo confused ako and shocked, and bakit ngayon? Bakit ngayong oras na 'to? Sana hinintay mo man lang ako makauwi sa Amerika," she added.
AiAi said one of Gerald's reasons for their separation was his desire to have children. The actress, who is already 60 years old, could no longer naturally conceive a baby.
The actress tearfully said that she and Gerald tried to conceive a child via in vitro fertilization (IVF), but they lost two of their three embryos.
AiAi also revealed that Gerald cheated on her in 2019, which gave her trust issues.
Despite the separation, AiAi will not revoke Gerald’s green card in the U.S..
AiAi wished the best for Gerald.
"I hope 'yung hindi ko pa naibigay sa 'yo na kaligayahan, sana makuha mo, and 'yung hinihiling mong anak healthy child. And I wish you well kasi sa sampung taong pinagsamahan natin, in fairness naman to you, naging good husband ka naman and siguro ganon talaga ang buhay. Basta, sana maging masaya ka na lang," she said.
