Gelli de Belen, Ariel Rivera weigh in on parents interfering with children’s love lives
Do Gelli de Belen and Ariel Rivera think parents should have a say in their children’s love lives?
On Wednesday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Gelli said that she learned something from her mother-in-law, Ariel’s mom.
“Ang sabi ni mom, pagdating sa mga daughters-in-law niya, wine-welcome niya na ‘I love them as my daughters because they’re the ones taking care of my children. So, kapag inaway ko sila, papaano na lang ‘yung relationship nila sa anak ko?’” Gelli said.
How Gelli views it is that if she antagonizes her son’s girlfriend, he will have unnecessary stress.
But if the girlfriend was really just a bad person, all Gelli can do is “talagang pagdadasal mo na lang talaga na ‘Please, please. Let them find somebody who’s right for them.’”
Ariel said that they always tell their sons that they will always accept their girlfriends.
“But there’s gonna come a point where there’s gonna be conflict between the two of you,” he said.
During moments like such, Ariel said they should ask themselves if their partner will make them a better person or not.
“‘Cause if she doesn’t make you a better person, then maybe it’s not the one,” he said.
According to the parents, their sons haven’t dated anyone they haven’t liked yet.
Gelli and Ariel tied the knot in 1997. They have two kids: Julio and Joaquin.
