Jesi Corcuera, proud transman, conceived baby via artificial insemination

Jesi Corcuera opened up on his pregnancy journey as a transman.

On Tuesday's episode of "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," the StarStruck alumnus revealed that he conceived his child via artificial insemination.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the process involves placing especially prepared sperm directly into the uterus during ovulation.

"Iniisip ko paano ko siya gagawin, kasi meron sa isip ko na hindi ko kayang gawin natural way," Jesi said about getting pregnant.

He considered in vitro fertilization or IVF, in which the sperm and the egg are combined outside the body in a laboratory. However, he said the procedure is not allowed for LGBT couples in the Philippines so it did not push through.

Jesi also said the initial plan was for his partner, Cams, to carry the baby because that time, he could not see himself getting pregnant.

He eventually decided on artificial insemination, his last resort, due to the pressure of his advancing age.

Jesi said getting pregnant took three years in the making as he had a lot of factors to consider, most of all the baby's health.

"Dahil nga planning ako kay baby, kahit wala pa siya, siya agad 'yung iisipin mo agad eh, kung safe ba. Dahil nga ang tagal ko rin nag-hormones since 2012, parang 11 years, iniisip ko nung time na 'yun baka hindi mag-work," he said.

Jesi had to prepare his body to carry a child, so he stopped taking hormones and received medical guidance from his endocrinologist.

"Ideally, six months lang 'yung hinihinging normal menstruation na bumalik, pero ako ginawa ko po ng one year para mas sigurado. Pero umabot pa po ng almost one and a half kasi marami pang naging balakid bago ulit magsimula," he said.

He said it took four tries before he successfully conceived a child via artificial insemination. He is expecting a baby girl, whom he affectionately calls "ninja" for the time being.

Jesi was part of "StarStruck: The Next Level" which aired on GMA Network in 2006. His batchmates include Kris Bernal, Aljur Abrenica, Paulo Avelino, and Chariz Solomon, among others.
