Dina Bonnevie says she doesn’t meddle with how Danica and Oyo discipline their kids

Dina Bonnevie may be a disciplinarian, but she does not meddle when it comes to how her children Danica and Oyo Boy Sotto discipline their own kids.

In an interview with GMA News Online on Wednesday, the “Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap” star shared that she reprimands kids when she sees they're doing something wrong, even if they are not her own.

When it's her grandchildren concerned, she would turn to her son, Oyo, to talk to them or she would try to talk to them herself.

“I’ll say ‘Stop that. That’s not right. Come here, I’ll talk to you.’ Kapag makulit pa rin, ‘Oyo, kausapin mo ‘tong anak mo,'" Dina explained.

When it comes to how her grandchildren should be disciplined, however, she just leaves that matter to their parents.

“Hindi naman [ako nangingialam]. Kasi, actually, ‘yung disciplining style ni Oyo is exactly my style of disciplining. Hindi siya spoiler eh. Kumbaga kung mayroong kasalanan talaga, papagalitan niya. Pagsasabihan niya,” she said.

The veteran actress added that she experienced corporal punishment growing up, and acknowledged that parenting styles now are different.

“Si Oyo, unlike me, ako kasi lumaki sa palo eh, luhod sa munggo. Sila hindi, kasi ang new way of parenting daw is kausapin mo daw muna, then kung papaluin mo, sasabihin mo kung bakit mo pinalo,” she said.

Dina is a lola to nine grandchildren: six from Oyo and wife Kristine Hermosa, and three from Danica and husband Marc Pingris.

Dina currently stars in the Kapuso afternoon series “Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap” as Giselle Marie Tanyag alongside Jillian Ward, Carmina Villarroel, Richard Yap, and more.

Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap” airs Mondays to Saturdays at 2:30 p.m.

The series will air its final episode on October 19.
