Sheryn Regis admits to being scared when daughter Sweety came out as bisexual

Sheryn Regis admitted that she got scared at first when her daughter Sweety came out as bisexual.

On Wednesday’s episode of “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” the Cebuana songstress shared how she accepted her daughter’s gender identity. 

“[Natakot ako]. Baka mapagdaanan niya ‘yung napagdaanan ko. Ayaw ko siyang masaktan, ayaw ko siyang mapagod sa buhay,” Sheryn shared. 

[I was scared because she might experience what I experienced. I don't want her to get hurt. I don't want her to get tired in life.]

In 2023, Sweety, Sheryn’s daughter to her ex-partner Earl Echiaverri came out as bisexual. In a morning talk show guesting, Sweety shared how around the time that her mom came out "I was also confused about my sexuality and self-identity."

"I was a young teenager when she first came out to me," she added.

"Since then when my mom came out to me, I actually had the guts and comfort to come out to her and my dad as bisexual,” Sweety said.

Upon coming out, her parents did not express disappointment over her revelation, and instead accepted and expressed full support for her gender identity.

In "Fast Talk," Sheryn said "knowing her life now, I’m so happy for her kasi napili niya talaga ‘yung kung anong gusto niya talaga na you know I’m not saying for gender or whatever ha? She has her own thing, she has her life na.”

She made sure to mention of how very proud she is of Sweety.

Dubbed as the “Crystal Voice of Asia,” Sheryn became popular for her rendition of Wendy Moten’s song “Coming In Out of the Rain,” which she sang during the grand finals of a reality singing competition in 2003. She eventually finished as the first runner up.

Sheryn and Wendy are set to perform together in “Harana: A #TroyLaureta East Meets West Live Experience” concert on October 18 at Las Vegas, Nevadas. They will be performing alongside Filipino and international artists Martin Nievera, Ruben Studdard, Morissette, Jessica Sanchez, Pia Toscano, Katrina Velarde, Josefina, Jay-R, Dessa and The Fat City Horns. 

Sheryn is currently in a relationship with online content creator and entrepreneur Mel De Guia after coming out as bisexual in 2021.
