Jean Garcia, Angelu De Leon talk about their fears when they left showbiz for motherhood

Both Jean Garcia and Angelu De Leon got pregnant when they were 19 years old, prompting them to take break from their showbiz careers to welcome motherhood.

On Thursday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the Kapuso actresses were asked what it was like for them during that hiatus.

“Ako naman, Kuya Boy, for a time na ‘yun nga, pregnant and all, ‘yung support naman kasi sa akin ng mga nasa larangan ng show business is may pasabi naman na, ‘Bumalik ka. Tatanggapin ka namin,’” Jean said.

“Pero siyempre, andun pa rin ‘yung kaba na tatanggapin ka ba ng tao ulit after this lalo na ang aga kong nagbuntis, ‘di ba? Nineteen lang ako,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Angelu said that there were two different experiences for her.

“‘Yung first, with Nicole, hindi ko siya naging fear na mawala sa showbiz kasi pinili ko talaga na buhayin ‘yung anak ko. Pinili ko talaga na I was willing to give up my career,” she said.

Angelu continued, “My second, with Louise, that was a different story. Kasi I was able to come back, and then it happened, dun ‘yung fear na, 'Tatanggapin pa ba ako?' Kasi iba na, totally iba na ‘yung impression sa ‘yo. Iba na 'yung environment."

The two stars shared that as parents, they are both hands-on and often share advice and their opinions when it comes to their children’s decisions.

Jean said that her kids,  actress Jennica Garcia and Kotaro Shimizu, call her a “cool mom.”

“Kasi ‘yung communication namin [ay] very open pero ‘yun lang. Kapag talagang may negative, sasabihin ko sa kanila. ‘Pag naman positive, cool na cool lang,” she said.

“‘Yung pangingialam namin, it’s only to open their minds of the possibilities of what they’re doing, right or wrong,” Angelu said of her kids Nicole, Louise, and Rafa.

“At the end of the day, I’m sure na pareho kami ni Ms. Jean na sa kanila pa rin ang desisyon, pero hindi pwedeng manahimik kami sa kahit na anong bagay," she added.

Jean and Angelu currently star in GMA Primetime shows “Widows’ War” and “Pulang Araw,” respectively.

Jean stars as Aurora Palacios, the mother of Rafael Rosell's character, while Angelu plays Carmela, the wife of vaudeville actor and theater owner Julio Borromeo (Epy Quizon).
