Lloyd Samartino on relationship with son Sergio: 'It's a work in progress'

Lloyd Samartino guested on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" Friday and opened up about his relationship with son Sergio.

"It's a work in progress," the "Lilet Matias" actor began.

"I want to be a bigger part of his life and I want him to become a part of my life more, because I'm not getting any younger," he added.

Sergio is his son with ex-wife Jo Ramos, who passed away in 2011 because of lung cancer. According to a Pep report, Sergio went to live with his maternal grandparents, former President Fidel Ramos and former First Lady Ming Ramos, and turned angry toward Lloyd.

It wasn't until the former First Lady arranged a meet up that the father and son finally met. While Sergio refused to talk to Lloyd on that first meeting, they have since started to work on patching things up.

The actor credits his in-laws for really taking care of Sergio growing up. "They made sure all their grandkids when to good schools. My son went to an ivy school," he said.

"But that's only the beginning. That's not enough. It's what you do with it that matters," Lloyd continued,as he expressed his fears and his hope for Sergio. "[I am afraid] that my son will become a failure, not financially but in being a productive citizen. I want my son to do great things," he said.

On Fast Talk, Lloyd turned sentimental, as he compared his childhood with his son's. "The people that you love, they enrich your lives, and that's what I want. Most of my intimate friends are always with friends, because I'm an only child," he said, noting he never met his father.

"My son is also an only child," he said.

"There are many holes in our lives that need to be filled," Lloyd added.
