Rita Avila on being a doll parent: ''Yung ibang mga tao madali sa kanila mag-judge'

According to Rita Avila, it is easy for people to pass judgment on things they don't understand.

On Friday's "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the veteran actress opened up about being a "doll parent" and shared how other people would call her "crazy" because of it.

Rita and her husband, television director FM Reyes, keep dolls at home. Aside from dressing up their dolls and talking to them, the couple also celebrate their birthdays and bring them along their travels. In fact, three of the dolls — Pony and twins Popoy and Mimay — have starred as characters in Rita's children's book series, "The Invisible Wings."

"'Yung ibang mga tao madali sa kanila mag-judge na loka-loka ka, crazy ka, siraulo, kasi, sorry, pero bobo sila. Maraming bobo ang nagpipintas na tanga ka or loka-loka ka if they don't understand what you're doing," she said frankly.

Rita also said that there are a lot of "pintasero" in the Philippines, adding that she and her husband did not receive any judgment when they brought their dolls abroad.

"Dinala namin 'yung dolls sa ibang bansa, everybody was delighted. Iba. Kahit sa eroplano pa lang, 'yung stewardess, sabi niya, 'Oh, your kids are the most behaved on this flight.' Sabi ko, 'Bakit sa Pilipinas ang tingin sa amin ganito? Dito, it's so normal, they're so positive,'" she said.

She also believes that there should be a club for doll owners in the Philippines. Per the actress, she has met people who share the same love and fondness for dolls, but seem to feel embarrassed about their passion.

"May mga taong lumalapit sa akin, patago. 'Miss Rita, o, may doll din ako, nag-c-celebrate din kami pag birthday,' sabi ko, 'Ba't ka nahihiya? Okay lang yan.' So, na-inspire sila that time," she said.

"Kung meron mang mga taong nag-isip nang hindi maganda sa kin, may mga tao ring... alam nila hindi sila mali, walang mali sa ginagawa nila," she added.

Rita is married to television director FM Reyes.

She gave birth to their son, Elia Jesu, in November 2006, but he passed away after heart surgery less than a month after being born.

She also has a spiritual daughter, Kate. This year, Rita and Kate celebrated 11 years of being mother and daughter by dining at CIBO.

Rita currently stars in "Lilet Matias: Attorney-At-Law" as Lorena De Leon, a philanthropist who Lilet (Jo Berry) admires.

The series airs from Monday to Friday at 3:20 pm on GMA Afternoon Prime.
