Jennylyn Mercado missed the GMA Gala to care for sick son, hairstylist says

Jennylyn Mercado missed the GMA Gala to care for sick son, says her hairstylist

Jennylyn Mercado was all set to attend the GMA Gala 2024 last Saturday, but had to miss the stellar event because her son, Alex Jazz, caught the flu.

On Instagram, the Ultimate Star's hairstylist, Bianca Anne Vergara, shared photos of what should've been Jennylyn's GMA Gala look. The Kapuso actress can be seen wearing a black mermaid-cut gown, while her long tresses were kept down for a classic, understated look.

"Eto dapat 'yun oh, kasado na eh," Bianca said. "Baka pwede i-rewind ang GMA Ball."

According to Bianca, Jennylyn "was supposed to attend GMA Ball. In fact, ready na kaming lahat, but sadly nagka-emergency si Jazz (anak na panganay), nag ka trangkaso."

Bianca added that as parents, Jennylyn and husband Dennis Trillo's priority are their children, so the former made the decision not to attend the ball.

"Sana po maintindihan na lang natin 'yung nagyari. Bawi na lang kami next year," said Bianca, before ending her post with a proud, "Our Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado."

She tagged the rest of the celebrity's glam team including makeup artist Janell Capuchino and stylists AJ Alberto and Christopher Ian Vinarao, as well as Jennylyn's manager Becky Aguila and the rest of the Aguila Entertainment Talent Agency.

Jennylyn was among those who liked Bianca's post.

Her husband, Dennis Trillo instead went solo at the GMA Gala over the weekend, where he handsomely graced the red carpet in a white custom suit by Ziggy Savella. He even had a solo afterparty following the gala, posting an Instagram Reel of himself doing the "Watashi Wa Star" dance challenge.

On Monday, Jennylyn took to Instagram to share a funny video of herself unleashing her inner supermodel. In the clip, she can be seen wearing the same gown that she would have worn to the GMA Gala.

Jennylyn is marking her 20th anniversary in the entertainment industry this year.

In November 2023, she shared to her fans that she's working on a new album, which she followed with a photo of her in a recording studio early this year.

Jennylyn and Dennis are also set to star in upcoming romantic comedy film, "Everything About My Wife," which is their first project together as husband and wife.

Dennis will likewise star in his first kontrabida role as Col. Yuta Saitoh in family drama, "Pulang Araw," which is premiering on Netflix on July 26, and on television on July 29.
