This dating app's new AI feature can help you pick your best photos

Do you struggle in choosing which photos to use for your dating profile? Fret not.

Tinder recently introduced a new AI-powered feature called "Photo Selector," which is designed to help users choose photos that might work as profile pictures from a curated selection.

To use Photo Selector, simply take a selfie for facial recognition, grant access to your camera roll, and allow Photo Selector to curate photos for your review.

According to Tinder, Photo Selector selects photos based on what the dating app has learned makes for good profile photos, such as lighting, composition, and more. It also filters out group photos.

In the end, users still get to choose which photos they want to use on the app.

Tinder is the first online dating app to introduce an AI tool like Photo Selector that helps the experience of building one's profile much easier, according to CEO Faye Iosotaluno.

"As demonstrated by our Photo Selector feature, we’re developing AI tech to assist you in making decisions, not to make them for you," she said. "Our commitment to our users is clear and equally applies to our view of AI: at Tinder, we develop innovative technologies to create a safer space for people to make authentic connections."

Based on a recent survey commissioned by Tinder, 52% of singles reported that it is hard to select a profile image, and 68% said that an AI feature to assist them in choosing photos would be helpful.

Much time may also be saved with the new feature. The same survey shows that singles aged 18 to 24 years old spend an average of 33 minutes just choosing the right profile photo on the app.

"By alleviating the burden of photo selection, Photo Selector empowers users to focus more on making meaningful connections rather than spending excessive time on photo selection," Tinder said.

Photo Selector will first be available to users in the United States beginning this July and international markets a bit later.
