Carla Abellana confirms divorce with Tom Rodriguez now recognized by PH court
The divorce of Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez is now recognized by the Philippine court.
Carla shared this detail in "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" on June 28, when she was asked by Tito Boy where she and Tom are at this point.
"We are divorced, recognized na po 'yan ng korte, local court po natin dito," said the Kapuso actress
"Kasi kailangan 'yan i-recognize ng court," Tito Boy noted
"Opo, ang foreign decree. We haven't spoken since, hindi pa po kami nagkikita o nag-uusap," she said.
She added that she has no updates about her ex-husband and that they do not communicate anymore. She also shared that she harbors no hatred towards Tom, saying that life is too short and one cannot fully move on if one holds on to anger.
Carla and Tom tied the knot in October 2021 after being in a relationship for seven years. In 2022, Tom announced in a statement through his talent manager Popoy Caritativo that he and Carla had already divorced.
Tom is an American citizen, so he can file for divorce in the United States. The divorce, however, will only be recognized in the Philippines when the local court approves a recognition of foreign divorce decree.
In September 2023, Carla shared that she has moved on from Tom and is, in fact, very happy.
This month, Carla also shared that she is in favor of divorce in the Philippines. In an interview with Nelson Canlas for "24 Oras," she said that she is a Catholic who is also "very realistic." She acknowledged that some marriages can get toxic and unhealthy, and that she hopes for the divorce bill to be signed into law.
