Teresa Loyzaga reveals she put son Diego in rehab

Teresa Loyzaga revealed that she was the one who put her son Diego into rehabilitation due to his drug use.

On Monday's episode of "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," the actress opened up about her relationship with her son, including her decision to send her son to a rehab facility.

Teresa said she blamed herself for what happened to Diego.

"There was a part of me that died, but I wanted my son to live. So I had to put him on rehab," Teresa said.

She also admitted that Diego got angry at her due to her decision that time.

"He wasn't himself then. We have to understand na 'yung mga mahal natin sa buhay kapag ka nalulong sa droga, pag kinakausap mo sila at binabastos ka nila, hindi sila 'yon," the veteran actress said.

After Diego's recovery, he came back and finally understood why his mother had to put him to the facility.

During the eight months of Diego's rehab, Teresa said that she had been visiting her son without his knowledge.

"Hindi rin niya alam is bumibisita ako lagi sa kaniya, kahit na bawal kami magkita. That was a part of his punishment for him to learn, to appreciate home, family," she said.

"Napapanood ko siya sa isang maliit na monitor. Kung nasaan siya sa loob, kung kumakain siya. Nagpapadala ako ng pagkain," she added.

She also recalled the time when a tarpaulin was the only thing that separated them.

"May butas 'yong tarpaulin. Sabi sa akin, 'you have to promise na tatahimik ka, hindi ka magpaparamdam.' Sabi ko 'promise, gusto ko lang talaga makalapit.' Pagitan lang namin tarpaulin, nakasilip lang ako sa butas para makita ang anak ko. Ang hirap," Teresa said.

In a past interview in "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Diego said rehab changed his life for the better.

"I was very, very depressed. I was on the brink of [being] suicidal and I will not deny that substances had a part to play with my mental state," Diego said, acknowledging the substances he took when he was down did not help.

He also shared his experience while inside the rehab facility. 

"It affected also with being an actor. Like I said, hindi ako iyakin na tao. Pero ngayon, kung balikan ko 'yung isang araw ko dun sa loob ng rehab, naiiyak talaga ko. It was so difficult," he admitted.

"It was eight months until I saw the moon, it was eight months until I got to see the sun." 

Diego is Teresa's son with Cesar Montano.

He has a baby girl, Hailey, who celebrated her first birthday in May.
